Article :: Battling Murphy's Law

by Donald Scott. AIIM e-Doc Magazine. January, 2004.

Between 50 and 80 percent of all Internet and IT development projects fail. And here, from the "we couldn't have said it better ourselves" file, is Don Scott's article on how to slant those odds back in your favour. Oddly enough, many of these suggestions closely mirror our methodologies here at Fruition:

  • account for everyday delays -- like sick days, holidays and meetings -- in your time estimates;

  • break projects into small stand-alone chunks;

  • create a risk management plan;

  • create a communication schedule;

  • use prototyping

There's more, and it's well worth a read if there's a new development project in your future.
