Nonprofits Doing More with Less

Web Technologies Help Local Non-Profit Agency to Streamline Reporting and Demonstrate Value to Donors.

In today’s economic climate, the outlook for many Canadian non-profit organizations is increasingly uncertain. Many non-profits face the challenge of meeting growing demands using diminishing resources.

To enhance system-wide efficiency and demonstrate value to its donors, one Toronto-based non-profit agency, the Working Women Community Centre (WWCC), turned to Web developer Fruition Interactive for an innovative solution.

The agency, which provides settlement services for immigrant women in Toronto’s West End, had concluded that its client relationship management (CRM) system was unreliable, too costly, and required too many hours of the agency’s staff time.

“It was costing the agency dozens, if not hundreds, of staff hours to do reporting,” said Kent Wakely, managing partner at Fruition Interactive. The agency needed a system that would streamline business functions, and enable the agency to accomplish more in less time.

Wakely and his team, in close collaboration with the agency, built a Web-based solution using CRM technology originally developed to solve sales and marketing problems in the private sector. The resulting applications now enables the agency to track services, and do reporting in significantly less time than previously.

“Fruition Interactive was very creative in identifying technologies that delivered value and produced the results that we were seeking,” said WWCC’s program manager, Vanda Henriques. “The new system is so easy to use that staff members with no previous technical ability were able to jump on board really quickly and began working.We have seen big improvements in our office,” she said.

Because the agency staff can now track each client interaction more effectively, they are poised to develop new insights regarding the clients they serve. As well, the new system allows the Working Women Community Centre to more effectively engage in strategic planning to meet future organizational challenges, bringing markedly enhanced value to their clients and donors.
